Interior Design and Your Budget

Interior Design and Your Budget Ever gone over budget when just doing a "little bit" of interior design? No? To be honest I don't really believe you! Interior design has a way of getting out of control very quickly. You head to the local design store to pick up a couple of small items but there are some absolutely gorgeous antler side lamps on sale! Or you finish one room - and then the adjoining room looks so shabby in comparison. The solution to budget over-runs on interior design projects are simple - have a realistic budget to start with! Don't expect to refurbish your kitchen for $500 if your taste runs to sophisticated coffee machines and state of the art work surfaces! If your budget is $1000 to replace drapes in your master suite do not waste your time looking at top quality velvets - head down to the bargain bin end of the drape store! Prioritize whats important to you as well. If you have a couch that is used every day and another in another room which is used only occasionally its worth spending more money on a quality couch that needs to withstand the teens on a daily basis! Don't always thing about replacing items can you recycle them instead? Would repainting a cabinet give it a new lease of life? Would the addition of some attractive throw cushions give that old window seat a bit a of a spruce up? Think about how long you intend to live in the house as well? If you are only redecorating to help with a house sale then keep it simple and cheap and low-key. Alternatively if you plan on living in the house for many years and your tastes really do run to deer antler chandeliers - then go for it!

Thank you for the suggestions you made here. With times being a little harder it is nice to be able to shave the budget.
